Thailand officially launched the 2026 edition of the “Youth Preserving Thai Music” project during a special event in Bangkok led by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. The program aims to encourage young people to connect with traditional Thai music while developing creativity, discipline and confidence through musical performance.
The launch ceremony took place on May 15, 2026, at the Phannana Building in Bangkok’s Dusit District. Government officials, music teachers, artists, committee members and young participants from across the country attended the event to support the nationwide cultural initiative.
According to government representatives, the project includes competitions and performances in several music categories, including Luk Krung, Luk Thung and contemporary Thai music. Officials said the initiative is designed to preserve Thailand’s cultural identity while creating opportunities for talented young performers.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said music plays an important role in helping youth develop valuable life skills beyond entertainment. He explained that activities connected to music can teach discipline, responsibility, teamwork, creativity and self-expression while also building confidence among young people.
The Prime Minister emphasized that traditional Thai music reflects the country’s language, lifestyle and cultural heritage. He said songs from different generations help young people better understand Thai identity and encourage pride in the nation’s traditions and history.
During his speech, Anutin recalled being deeply impressed by the talent and energy displayed by students during the previous year’s competition. He stated that the project has become an important platform for inspiring youth and creating positive opportunities for future generations across Thailand.
Government officials also highlighted the strong cooperation between public agencies, teachers, musicians and cultural organizations involved in supporting the program. Authorities believe this collaboration will help ensure the long-term growth and success of the cultural initiative.
The Thai government stated that it remains committed to supporting programs that strengthen youth development while preserving national traditions and cultural values. Officials hope the project will continue to expand and encourage more young people to participate in Thai music and performing arts.
At the end of the ceremony, Prime Minister Anutin joined performers on stage and sang the classic Thai song “Kho Phop Nai Fan,” originally performed by the famous Suntaraporn band. The moment received warm applause from students, artists and guests attending the event.
