Vietnamese President To Lam and his wife Ngo Phuong Ly are set to begin an official visit to Thailand on May 27 and 28, marking an important milestone in diplomatic relations between the two Southeast Asian nations. The visit comes as Thailand and Vietnam celebrate the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic partnership.
Thai government officials described the visit as highly significant because Thailand will become the first ASEAN country officially visited by President To Lam since taking office. The trip is expected to deepen political trust and expand cooperation across multiple sectors between the two neighboring countries.
The visit will focus on strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Thailand and Vietnam. Leaders from both countries are expected to discuss cooperation in trade, investment, regional security, science, technology, innovation, and cultural exchanges.
Thailand’s Prime Minister will formally welcome President To Lam at Government House in Bangkok with a ceremonial reception and military honor guard. High-level bilateral talks will then take place to discuss regional stability, economic growth, and future collaboration within ASEAN.
Both sides are also expected to witness the signing and exchange of several Memorandums of Understanding between Thai and Vietnamese agencies. The leaders will jointly unveil the official logo commemorating fifty years of Thailand-Vietnam diplomatic relations.
A major highlight of the visit will be the Thailand-Vietnam Business Forum, where business leaders and investors from both countries will explore new investment opportunities and discuss ways to boost long-term economic cooperation. Thai businesses operating in Vietnam are also expected to present recommendations directly to Vietnamese leadership.
Officials say the visit reflects the strong friendship and growing trust between Thailand and Vietnam at a time when ASEAN nations are seeking closer regional cooperation amid global economic and geopolitical uncertainty.
The Thai government believes the visit will open a new chapter in bilateral relations and help both countries strengthen regional stability, economic resilience, and strategic connectivity for the future.
