The government of Thailand has announced a major step to improve the income of local government employees by adjusting their compensation. The decision is part of a broader policy to raise salaries across the public sector and ensure fair wages for workers at all levels.
According to officials, the new salary structure will apply to employees working in provincial administrative organizations, municipalities, and sub-district administrative bodies. This includes general workers, contract employees, and specialized staff who play important roles in local governance.
One of the key highlights of the policy is that the salary adjustment will be applied retroactively from May 1, 2024. This means eligible employees will receive backdated compensation based on the new pay rates, helping to increase their overall earnings.
The government also plans to continue adjusting salaries from May 1, 2025, based on factors such as skills, qualifications, and the nature of the job. This ensures that pay levels remain fair and reflect the responsibilities of different roles.
For employees who were hired before the new policy comes into effect, compensation will be adjusted through additional payments. This step is aimed at making sure that existing staff do not earn less than newly hired employees under the revised system.
Officials emphasized that local government employees are essential to daily public services. They are responsible for tasks such as healthcare support, infrastructure maintenance, administration, and community development at the local level.
The government said this move is not only about increasing salaries but also about improving morale among workers. By offering better pay, authorities hope to motivate employees and improve the quality of services provided to the public.
The policy is expected to strengthen the efficiency of local government systems and ensure that citizens receive faster, better, and more reliable services in their communities.
