Thailand’s Ministry of Labour has launched a large-scale employment initiative in Surin Province aimed at boosting local employment opportunities and strengthening workforce skills in the northeastern region. The “JOB FAIR @ Surin: Great Jobs in My Hometown” event brought together more than 50 leading companies offering over 5,000 job vacancies across multiple sectors.
The event was officially opened by Chulaphan Amornvivat at Lumpini Grand Hall in Surin. Senior officials from the Ministry of Labour, local government agencies and educational institutions also attended the program, which focused on connecting employers directly with job seekers and young graduates.
According to the Labour Ministry, the fair was designed to provide employment access for all groups including recent graduates, unemployed individuals, career changers and vulnerable communities. Authorities highlighted Surin’s growing economic potential in agriculture, tourism, services and food processing industries, which are expected to create new opportunities in the coming years.
Minister Chulaphan emphasized that Thailand’s labour market is rapidly evolving alongside the digital economy. He said modern industries now require workers with technology, language and professional skills rather than only traditional labour capabilities. As a result, the government is increasing focus on up-skilling and re-skilling programs to prepare workers for future employment demands.
The two-day job fair also featured career development activities including trial training for 25 independent professions, virtual reality learning sessions, overseas employment consultations and educational open-house programs from 11 institutions. Organizers stated that the event aims to inspire young people while helping them identify modern career paths and entrepreneurship opportunities.
Visitors were also able to explore exhibitions on innovative careers, meet employers directly for interviews and receive career guidance from labour officials. The event additionally showcased OTOP products, local community businesses and government-supported affordable goods to support grassroots economic development.
Officials said the fair serves as an important platform to reduce job search costs and improve employment access for residents living outside major urban centers. Authorities believe such programs can help strengthen local economies while reducing migration pressures on larger cities.
The Ministry of Labour stated that the initiative reflects broader national efforts to improve quality employment, develop workforce competitiveness and create sustainable economic growth in regional provinces across Thailand.
