Starbucks Appoints Indian-Origin Tech Leader Anand Varadarajan

Starbucks has announced a big leadership change in its technology team. The company has appointed Anand Varadarajan, an Indian-origin technology expert, as its new Chief Technology Officer.

Anand Varadarajan will start his new role on January 19. He will join the company’s top leadership group and report directly to the Chief Executive Officer. He is taking over the role after the earlier technology head retired in September.

Varadarajan brings long and strong experience in the technology field. He spent nearly 19 years at Amazon, where he worked on building large and reliable systems used by millions of customers. In his most recent role at Amazon, he handled technology and supply systems for the company’s global grocery business.

Before joining Amazon, Anand Varadarajan also worked as a software engineer at Oracle. He also worked with a few startup companies early in his career, where he gained hands-on experience in building technology from the ground up.

Starbucks said that Anand Varadarajan has deep knowledge in creating safe and strong digital systems. The company believes his experience will help improve daily operations and make customer services faster and smoother across the world.

Anand Varadarajan studied at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). He later earned a master’s degree in civil engineering from Purdue University and another master’s degree in computer science from the University of Washington.

The company expects that Anand Varadarajan’s appointment will speed up its digital plans and make its global technology systems stronger. Starbucks is focusing more on digital tools, online services, and smooth customer experiences, and his leadership is seen as an important step in that direction.

With Anand Varadarajan joining as Chief Technology Officer, Starbucks aims to grow its technology strength while keeping customers at the center of everything it does.
