At the New Chandigarh Stadium, a ceremonial tribute was held where stands were named in honor of India women’s cricket captain Harmanpreet Kaur and celebrated former allrounder Yuvraj Singh. This event occurred ahead of the second T20I match between India and South Africa, attracting family, teammates, and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Yuvraj Singh, who hung up his international boots in 2019, had his India debut in the year 2000. Over the years, he has participated in 40 Tests, 304 ODIs, and 58 T20Is—his contributions were pivotal in India’s successes, including the first-ever T20 World Cup in 2007 and the 2011 ODI World Cup, where he was named Player of the Series for his exceptional performance.
Meanwhile, Harmanpreet Kaur has made significant strides with the women’s team, having recently led them to their inaugural Women’s World Cup victory in November 2025. Since her debut in 2009, she has played six Tests, 161 ODIs, and 182 T20Is, accumulating 4409 runs in ODIs along with 3654 runs in T20Is.
The naming of these stands signifies the lasting impact both players have had on Indian cricket, serving as a source of inspiration for future generations of cricketers.
This occasion underscores the pivotal roles both Kaur and Yuvraj have played in defining the essence of cricket in India, highlighting their ongoing contributions on and off the pitch.
Now, with this recognition, the New Chandigarh Stadium becomes a landmark for cricket enthusiasts to honor these sports legends.
