South Korea’s ICT Exports Hit Record $25.43 Billion in September

South Korea’s ICT Exports Hit Record $25.43 Billion in September

Post by : Rameen Ariff

South Korea’s information and communication technology (ICT) sector achieved a major milestone last month, with exports surging due to strong global demand for semiconductors. In September, ICT exports rose 14% year-on-year, reaching a record $25.43 billion—the highest ever for any September.

Semiconductors Driving Export Growth

The Ministry of Science and ICT highlighted that the surge was largely fueled by semiconductor shipments, which climbed 21.9% from last year to $16.62 billion. Rising memory chip prices and increased investments in AI servers by global companies have been key contributors. Experts say this growth reinforces South Korea’s leadership in the global chip market.

Imports and Trade Surplus

ICT imports also grew, increasing 10.4% to $13.78 billion. Despite higher imports, the sector maintained a strong trade surplus of $11.65 billion, reflecting the sustained momentum in exports.

Outlook for the ICT Industry

Industry analysts believe that as AI technology expands worldwide, the demand for high-performance chips will continue to grow. This trend is expected to support South Korea’s ICT export growth and strengthen its position in the global market.
