Death Toll from Mexican Navy Plane Crash Climbs to Six, Including Young Child

Death Toll from Mexican Navy Plane Crash Climbs to Six, Including Young Child

Post by : Meena Ariff

The Mexican Navy announced on Tuesday that the body of the final missing passenger from a recent military aircraft crash has been retrieved, bringing the death toll to six.

The ill-fated flight carried eight individuals when it went down on Monday. Officials reported that two of the passengers survived and are currently receiving medical treatment and are stable.

In her morning press briefing, President Claudia Sheinbaum revealed that a two-year-old child was among those deceased. She offered her sympathies to the victims' families and noted that the flight comprised medical personnel, Navy members, and family accompanying the child.

According to local broadcaster N+, the child had sustained severe burns from a boiling water disaster. Nearby hospitals in their hometown of Escárcega were unable to treat the injuries, leading to plans for the child’s transfer to a specialized medical center.

The family was connected with the Michou y Mau Foundation in Mérida, which focuses on assisting children with serious burn injuries. In some instances, the foundation facilitates treatment in Galveston, Texas.

No further details have been provided from Galveston authorities, and the cause of the crash remains undisclosed by the Mexican Navy.

President Sheinbaum confirmed that an exhaustive investigation is in progress, emphasizing close collaboration with U.S. authorities to analyze the final moments leading up to the aircraft’s loss of contact with ground control.

U.S. Ambassador to Mexico, Ronald Johnson, has expressed his condolences, stating that thoughts and prayers are extended to all affected by this heartbreaking incident.
