Post by : Maya Rahman

On Saturday, His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, met with a delegation from Birzeit University (BZU) at the Dr Sultan Al Qasimi Centre. The delegation was led by Dr Hanan Ashrawi, Chairperson of the University’s Board of Trustees.

Sheikh Sultan extended his warm welcome to the delegation, commending their dedication to managing the university and enhancing its academic frameworks. He noted that their tireless efforts enable BZU to uphold its educational mission and play a pivotal role in serving Palestinian society. The Ruler stressed that diligent work is essential for elevating higher education standards and the university’s status among Palestinian institutions.

He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting educational institutions facing challenges, highlighting that the difficult circumstances for Palestinian students necessitate decisive actions to ensure they can pursue their education in a secure and nurturing environment.

During the gathering, Sheikh Sultan received an in-depth overview of BZU’s academic programs. As one of the oldest institutions in Palestine, BZU offers over 170 courses at undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and professional diploma levels across various disciplines including science, engineering, arts, business, law, and health.

Birzeit University serves more than 13,000 students and is well-regarded for its innovative approach in scientific research, community engagement, and its esteemed academic standing both locally and internationally. The institution ranks highly among Palestinian universities and continues to play a vital role in advancing higher education and societal development.
