Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with a group from Khalifa University to assess the latest advancements in scientific research, innovation, and technology development. Ebrahim Al Hajri led the delegation, comprising prominent academic leaders, researchers, and administrative officials.
The discussion covered ongoing research initiatives within the university's three colleges and fourteen specialized research centers. Updates were shared about various fields, including engineering, medical sciences, cybersecurity, and advanced technology. Key conversations focused on the pivotal role of scientific research in realizing the UAE's vision for a knowledge-driven economy rooted in innovation.
The delegation also detailed progress in satellite-based remote sensing and AI technologies, developed through the Environmental and Geophysical Sciences Laboratory. Researchers illustrated how these advanced systems can detect underground structures, archaeological sites, groundwater sources, and geological formations without the need for on-site surveys, having already been applied successfully in key regions such as Al Ain.
Officials noted that AI and machine learning significantly enhance data analysis and improve the accuracy of environmental and geological research. The research team showcased how AI systems can process intricate satellite and radar data to advance scientific discoveries, climate assessments, and emergency planning. They emphasized the technology's potential for wider application across the MENA region.
The delegation also underscored the university’s cutting-edge ground-penetrating radar network, featuring 20 specialized instruments stationed across its campuses. These systems play a crucial role in field research and validating remote sensing findings, also contributing to flood prediction and disaster response strategy, aiding government efforts to enhance public safety.
Delegation members expressed gratitude to Sheikh Hazza for his persistent backing of higher education and scientific research in the UAE. They emphasized the university's commitment to bolstering international collaborations and expanding research capabilities, aligning with the nation’s ambition to emerge as a global leader in science and technology. They stressed the necessity of investing in education and innovation for sustainable economic growth.
This meeting demonstrates the UAE leadership's unwavering dedication to advancing scientific inquiry and developing state-of-the-art technologies that boost national growth. Khalifa University is pivotal in nurturing the UAE’s innovation ecosystem through research in AI, healthcare, engineering, environmental sciences, and cybersecurity. Experts predict that these efforts will enhance the UAE's global competitiveness in leading scientific and technological sectors over the next few years.
