The Selangor state government is considering a gradual increase in rental rates for the People’s Housing Project (PPR) as part of efforts to improve maintenance and upgrade facilities within public housing areas.
State Housing and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said the proposal comes after Perumahan dan Hartanah Selangor Sdn Bhd took over the management of PPR housing under an agreement with the Housing and Local Government Ministry.
According to Borhan, the current rental rate of RM124 may be revised, although the final amount has not yet been decided because discussions with residents are still ongoing.
He explained that many PPR buildings require urgent maintenance work, including repainting, lift repairs, water tank cleaning, and improvements to common facilities used by thousands of residents.
The state government also received RM2.3 million from the Housing and Local Government Ministry to support one year of maintenance and management operations in the housing area.
Authorities said the new management system will introduce stricter monitoring measures such as access card systems and parking controls to improve safety and organization within the residential complexes.
At the same time, the Selangor government is investigating cases where tenants allegedly sublet their housing units to third parties, which officials described as unfair to other eligible residents waiting for housing assistance.
Borhan added that enforcement action against illegal pig farming activities in Tanjung Sepat will begin from July 1 after a six-month grace period provided to operators.
