Saudi Arabia has reinforced the critical need to safeguard the Strait of Hormuz, indicating that any hindrance to this key maritime route could adversely impact global commerce and energy security.
During a collaborative press conference with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations and the United States, Dr. Abdulaziz Alwasil, the Kingdom's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, underscored the Strait's vital function in preserving international trade and consistent energy sources.
As reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Alwasil stated that threats to navigation within the strait would significantly influence global markets, international supply chains, and the efficient flow of goods worldwide.
He cautioned that any disturbances in the area could lead to serious humanitarian and economic repercussions, causing delays in essential supplies, medical resources, and humanitarian assistance.
Alwasil called for the preservation of maritime security and the seamless continuation of international trade in accordance with global laws. He urged for enhanced international collaboration to mitigate tensions in the area and avert escalation that might compromise regional and global tranquility.
This statement was issued amidst discussions on a draft resolution aimed at safeguarding the freedom of navigation and maritime security in international waters.
