Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has finally responded after the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) issued a non-cooperation directive against him over his reported exit from the highly anticipated film Don 3. The controversy has quickly become one of the most discussed developments in the Indian film industry, raising questions about professional accountability and contractual commitments in Bollywood.
FWICE announced its decision on May 25, 2026, claiming that the actor repeatedly failed to appear before the federation despite receiving multiple notices and reminders. The federation stated that it had attempted to hear both sides before arriving at its final decision. According to officials, the issue began after filmmaker Farhan Akhtar formally filed a complaint regarding Ranveer’s withdrawal from the project.
Responding to the controversy, Ranveer Singh’s spokesperson released an official statement emphasizing the actor’s respect for the film fraternity and everyone associated with the Don franchise. The statement noted that Ranveer intentionally chose to remain silent throughout the dispute, believing that professional matters should be handled with maturity, dignity, and mutual respect rather than through public confrontations.
The statement further clarified that although multiple narratives and speculations had surfaced online, the actor did not wish to contribute to unnecessary public debate. According to his team, Ranveer remains fully focused on his current professional commitments while continuing to maintain goodwill toward everyone connected to the project. The spokesperson added that the actor sincerely wishes success for the Don franchise despite the ongoing disagreement.
FWICE Chief Advisor Ashok Pandit later explained during a press conference that the complaint dates back to April 11, when Farhan Akhtar approached the federation seeking intervention. Pandit stated that the producers alleged Ranveer exited the film only weeks before the shooting schedule was set to begin, causing significant disruption to planning, production logistics, and financial arrangements connected to the film.
The federation revealed that producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani attended meetings to present their concerns before the governing body. While Ritesh reportedly attended in person, Farhan joined virtually from London to explain the sequence of events. FWICE officials claimed they sent notices to Ranveer Singh every ten to fifteen days requesting his appearance, but they did not receive a formal response during the process.
According to Ashok Pandit, Ranveer’s legal team eventually questioned FWICE’s authority to intervene in the matter shortly before the federation’s press conference was held. However, with no direct appearance from the actor before the committee, the organization proceeded with the non-cooperation directive after internal deliberations.
FWICE President BN Tiwari stated that the issue extends beyond a disagreement between an actor and producer because sudden disruptions to film productions directly affect thousands of technicians, daily wage workers, junior artists, and support staff who depend on projects for their livelihood. He stressed that no individual, regardless of their stardom, is above industry rules and professional obligations.
The development has intensified the ongoing debate surrounding accountability within Bollywood and could have wider implications for future film contracts and artist-producer relationships. Meanwhile, neither the makers of Don 3 nor Ranveer Singh have officially confirmed any legal action regarding the dispute.
