Thailand’s Minister of Education Prasert Chantharawongthong and Deputy Minister of Education Akranan Kankittinan took part in a special merit-making and alms-giving ceremony held in honour of Her Majesty Queen Rambhai Barni, the Queen Consort of King Rama VII.
The ceremony took place at Wat Ratchabophit Sathit Mahasimararam Ratchaworawihan in Bangkok and marked the 100th anniversary celebration commemorating Queen Rambhai Barni’s birth. The event brought together government officials, religious leaders and members of the public to pay tribute to the late royal figure.
The merit-making activities reflected Thailand’s strong cultural and spiritual traditions, where Buddhist ceremonies are often held to honour important national and royal occasions. Monks participated in prayers and blessing rituals as officials offered alms and paid their respects during the ceremony.
Education Minister Prasert stated that the event symbolised gratitude and remembrance for the royal contributions made by Queen Rambhai Barni to the nation. He noted that preserving historical memory and cultural values remains important for younger generations and Thai society as a whole.
The ceremony also highlighted the close relationship between Thai institutions and the monarchy, which continues to hold deep significance in the country’s cultural and national identity. Religious ceremonies linked to the royal family remain an important part of public life in Thailand.
Wat Ratchabophit, one of Bangkok’s prominent royal temples, served as the setting for the commemorative event. The temple has historically hosted major royal and state ceremonies and remains an important spiritual landmark in the capital.
Officials and attendees participated in prayers for prosperity and national harmony while honouring the memory of Queen Rambhai Barni. The event also reinforced the role of Buddhist traditions in preserving Thailand’s heritage and royal legacy.
The anniversary celebration is expected to continue with additional commemorative activities aimed at educating the public about the historical contributions and legacy of Queen Rambhai Barni in Thailand’s modern history.
