Putin Aide Holds Talks With US Officials After Peace Proposals

Putin Aide Holds Talks With US Officials After Peace Proposals

Post by : Meena Ariff

Russia has confirmed that senior-level contacts have taken place between Moscow and Washington following the receipt of U.S. proposals linked to a possible peace settlement in Ukraine. The Kremlin said on Friday that President Vladimir Putin’s foreign policy aide, Yuri Ushakov, held telephone discussions with members of the current U.S. administration.

According to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, the conversation involved several officials from the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump. While confirming the talks, Peskov did not disclose the exact date of the call or provide details about the individuals involved on the American side.

The discussions reportedly came after Moscow received proposals from the United States outlining potential pathways toward resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. However, the Kremlin has not made public the contents of these proposals, nor has it indicated whether Russia views them as a viable basis for negotiations.

Peskov emphasized that diplomatic contacts between Russia and the United States continue through various channels, particularly on issues of strategic importance. He added that such exchanges should be seen as part of ongoing efforts to maintain dialogue amid strained relations between the two countries.

The Ukraine conflict has remained a central point of tension between Moscow and Washington, with both sides repeatedly expressing differing views on security arrangements, territorial issues, and international guarantees. While recent contacts may signal renewed engagement, officials have so far stopped short of suggesting any immediate breakthrough.

For now, the Kremlin maintains that further steps will depend on careful consideration of the proposals received and the broader geopolitical context surrounding the conflict.
