Islamabad, Sep 27, 2025: Pakistani security forces carried out a militant raid in the northwest district of Karak, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing 17 Taliban fighters, police confirmed. The operation, which involved an intense gunbattle, left three security officers wounded, according to regional Police Chief Shehbaz Elahi.
Elahi stated that the slain militants belonged to the Pakistani Taliban, locally referred to as "Khwarij," a term used for extremist insurgents operating in the region. No further details were disclosed about the identities of the militants or the operation’s tactical execution.
This raid comes just two days after a similar intelligence-based operation in Dera Ismail Khan, another district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where security forces killed 13 Pakistani Taliban fighters.
Pakistan has experienced a rise in militant violence in recent years, much of it linked to separatist groups and the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The TTP, although separate from the Afghan Taliban, has maintained strong alliances and is believed to have been emboldened since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in 2021, with many fighters reportedly taking refuge in Afghanistan.
Security analysts warn that these counter-terrorism operations are crucial to contain Taliban activity and restore stability in Pakistan’s volatile northwest regions.
