Kingston, Ontario – A regular morning turned life-changing for David Hatt when a spontaneous decision at a gas station led to a staggering $75 million Lotto Max win, making him Ontario’s largest lottery jackpot winner and the second biggest in Canadian history.
A Fortunate Impulse
On August 18, Hatt, a married father of two, was on his way to the grocery store when he felt an unusual impulse to buy a lottery ticket. Without overthinking, he picked a quick-pick Lotto Max ticket. Little did he know, his life was about to change forever.
The next morning, while grabbing his usual drive-thru coffee, Hatt checked his ticket using the OLG app. Initially, he thought he had won $75,000. “It wasn’t until I looked again that I realized there were a lot more zeros!” Hatt laughed, recalling the moment of shock and excitement.
Sharing the Life-Changing News
Rushing home, Hatt carefully prepared his wife for the incredible news. “I said, ‘I need you to sit down,’ and showed her the screen. She asked, ‘Is that $75 million??’ and I loudly said ‘YES!’” The couple quickly started discussing plans for their newfound fortune.
Plans for Family and Community
While the Hatt family is thrilled to enjoy personal luxuries, their focus goes beyond themselves. “We want to support our family but also give back to the community and help the most vulnerable,” Hatt explained. They intend to spread their contributions across multiple causes rather than focusing on just one initiative.
In the months following the win, the family consulted financial and legal experts to plan responsible management of their prize. Among their personal plans are purchasing their dream home, previously out of reach, and traveling across Europe to explore small towns, picturesque countrysides, and hidden gems.
A Small Personal Treat
Despite their generosity, Hatt admitted he will indulge in a small personal treat: a new set of golf clubs. “We’re going to be pinching ourselves for years to come,” he said, smiling as he imagined their transformed future.
A Life Changed Forever
David Hatt’s $75 million Lotto Max win not only transforms his family’s life but also serves as a remarkable example of how a simple, spontaneous decision can lead to unimaginable fortune. This historic win highlights the excitement and unpredictability of Canada’s lottery system and the life-changing potential it holds for everyday people.
