The Sultanate of Oman achieved major international recognition after winning four medals at the International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition 2026 held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The achievement highlighted Oman’s growing strength in scientific research, innovation, and advanced technology development.
Represented by the Research and Innovation Authority, Oman secured three gold medals and one silver medal during the prestigious ITEX 2026 exhibition. More than 1,000 inventions from 17 countries were showcased at the event, making the competition one of the most significant innovation platforms in the world.
One of Oman’s gold medals was awarded to innovator Nahya Nasser Al Hamdani for developing smart glasses integrated with a mobile application to assist blind and visually impaired individuals. The innovation helps users safely interact with their surroundings and improve independent mobility through advanced digital support systems.
The second gold medal was won by Luqman Sulaiman Al Dhafri for his “Drone-Air Lens” project. The invention uses drones powered by artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies to conduct automated aircraft inspections with greater speed and accuracy. The project also received a special award for the best invention at the exhibition.
Oman’s third gold medal was secured by innovator Zaher Salim Al Alawi for creating an advanced biotherapeutic platform designed to accelerate the healing process for chronic and diabetic wounds. The system uses smart medical delivery technologies aimed at improving patient recovery and healthcare efficiency.
Meanwhile, Balqees Salim Al Hikmani earned a silver medal for developing a closed-loop smart medical system that regulates potassium levels in heart patients. The innovation was praised for its potential contribution to improving cardiac care and patient monitoring in modern healthcare systems.
Officials from Oman described the achievement as a reflection of the country’s progress in research and development and its commitment to supporting young innovators capable of creating solutions aligned with the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The awards also demonstrated the increasing global competitiveness of Omani talent in technology and scientific innovation.
