North Al Sharqiyah Governorate witnessed significant growth in the agricultural, livestock, and water sectors throughout 2025, reflecting Oman’s continued efforts to strengthen food security and sustainable development. These advancements were driven by a series of projects and initiatives implemented under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources.
The developments align with the broader objectives of Oman Vision 2040, focusing on enhancing food production, improving water resource management, and supporting farmers and livestock breeders across the region. The strategy highlights the importance of building a resilient and self-sufficient agricultural sector.
According to Dr. Abdulaziz Ali Al Mashikhi, the governorate recorded an average agricultural production of 1.267 million tonnes over the past three years. This reflects consistent growth and improved productivity across multiple farming sectors.
Fruit cultivation saw a 7 percent increase, reaching 841 acres with a production of 4,633 tonnes. Vegetable farming also contributed significantly, covering 989 acres and producing over 51,000 tonnes, accounting for a substantial portion of the region’s agricultural output.
Date palm cultivation expanded by 1.3 percent to 8,359 acres, with total production estimated at 50,236 tonnes. The governorate ranked fifth nationally in date production and secured the top position in the production of “Mabsali” dates, highlighting its agricultural importance.
In addition to crop production, authorities launched several initiatives, including the Model Grape Farms Project in Ibra. This project aims to cultivate 100 acres of grapes, introduce new globally competitive varieties, and boost economic returns while enhancing food and water security.
Officials emphasized that North Al Sharqiyah has achieved full self-sufficiency in key products such as dates, cucumbers, honey, and eggs. These achievements underline the region’s growing contribution to Oman’s national economy and its commitment to modern, sustainable agricultural practices.
