The National Library and Archives (NLA) has rolled out its new initiative, “Al Majlis,” a vibrant cultural and historical platform intended to operate during key events and national celebrations. This venue fosters knowledge exchange while reaffirming the NLA’s dedication to preserving the UAE’s rich heritage and ensuring accessibility to historical documentation through innovative methods for the future.
In furthering its cultural mission, the NLA seeks to enhance its prominent role by offering specialized platforms that enable the public and interested organizations to delve into its advanced archival, documentation, and historical research outputs. “Al Majlis” is also pivotal in promoting knowledge and safeguarding the Emirati cultural legacy.
The debut session of “Al Majlis” was launched in partnership with the Emirates International Endurance Village during the Union Day Cup events. The platform kicked off with its inaugural lecture titled “Purebred Arabian Horses in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi,” presented by esteemed researcher Mohammed Ali Al Matrooshi. As an expert in equine history and bloodlines, Al Matrooshi provided insights into the lineage of Arabian horses in Abu Dhabi, using preserved manuscripts that chronicle the Arab world's historical bond with horses and their meticulous pedigree documentation.
The lecture underscored the importance of Arabian horses in Emirati society and leadership, showcasing their significance beyond mere symbols of strength, illustrating their central role in the cultural identity of the UAE. It addressed how these majestic animals have influenced social and economic spheres while being revered through generations.
With “Al Majlis,” the NLA is committed to devising innovative platforms that foster collaborations with national institutions and promote knowledge-driven initiatives aimed at heritage preservation and advanced technologies. This supports the UAE’s vision for sustainable development and cultural leadership.
The platform aspires to enhance national identity and raise societal awareness regarding the importance of safeguarding the UAE’s collective memory. It offers specialized programs and rich content to inspire both current and future generations to forge deep connections with the country’s cultural heritage.
Ultimately, the National Library and Archives envisions “Al Majlis” as a guiding light for augmenting knowledge and heritage value, building strategic partnerships, and aligning with the UAE’s aspirations for global excellence and leadership.
