Nigeria Unveils 28-Player Roster for AFCON 2025

Nigeria Unveils 28-Player Roster for AFCON 2025

Post by : Maya Rahman

Nigeria has officially unveiled its 28-player roster for the upcoming AFCON 2025, with standout forwards Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman at the forefront. Osimhen earned the title of Africa’s top player in 2023, while Lookman claimed the accolade in the subsequent year. This time around, Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi has taken the honor. The selection reflects Nigeria’s determination as they gear up for another significant continental quest in Morocco.

The Super Eagles are set to commence their Group C campaign on December 23 with a match against Tanzania. Following this, they will face Tunisia on December 27 and Uganda on December 30. Nigeria and Tunisia are viewed as front-runners for the top two positions, while the East African teams aim to secure third place for a shot at qualifying as one of the best-performing third-placed teams. The group-stage format provides additional chances for teams to progress to the next round.

Nigeria boasts a storied legacy in the tournament, having clinched the title three times, with their last victory in 2013 after overcoming Burkina Faso in Johannesburg. In the most recent edition, the Super Eagles were runners-up to hosts Ivory Coast. With their formidable roster, including stars like Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and others, Nigeria aspires to achieve even greater success and vie for their fourth continental championship.

Prior to their journey to Morocco, the squad will compete against Egypt in a friendly match on December 16 in Cairo. Following this warm-up, the Super Eagles will head to Fes, where all their group-stage matches will take place. Supporters are optimistic that the Super Eagles will deliver an exceptional performance, leveraging their experience to make a powerful push in the AFCON knockout stages.
