Two Miners in Madhya Pradesh Strike Diamond Worth Rs 5 Million

Two Miners in Madhya Pradesh Strike Diamond Worth Rs 5 Million

Post by : Badri Ariffin

In a stunning twist of fate, two young individuals hailing from the Panna district of Madhya Pradesh have unearthed a remarkable 15.34-carat diamond, valued at approximately Rs 5 million. This extraordinary find comes merely 20 days after they secured a tiny mining lease in Krishna Kalyanpur, transforming their everyday existence into an incredible narrative overnight.

Satish Khatik, aged 24 and operating a modest meat shop, alongside 23-year-old Sajid Mohammad, who works at a fruit stall, could never have envisioned that their simple livelihoods would soon be overshadowed by such an exceptional gemstone. The diamond, authenticated by local authorities, is already in the process of being auctioned, heralding what could be a life-altering windfall for the young discoverers.

Panna boasts a reputation as one of India’s select legal diamond mining regions, where individuals have the opportunity to lease plots. All mined gems must be submitted to the district's diamond office, which manages the auctions, deducting taxes and royalties before distributing the remainder to the finders. Recent history has seen several astonishing finds, including a female laborer last month who uncovered multiple diamonds in her leased area.

For Satish and Sajid, the timing is particularly poignant. With wedding preparations on the horizon for their sisters, the potential earnings from the diamond could alleviate financial strains that appeared insurmountable. Their journey is a testament to Panna’s continued promise for small-scale miners and the unexpected fortunes that may await just beneath the earth.
