A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck Turkey on Thursday, according to the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ). The quake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers, which can increase the intensity of ground shaking and the potential for structural damage.
Initial reports had estimated the earthquake at magnitude 5.33, but the GFZ later revised the measurement to 4.7, Reuters reported. Shallow earthquakes are generally more dangerous than deeper ones because their seismic waves reach the surface faster, leading to stronger shaking and a higher risk of damage and casualties.
While no immediate reports of injuries or significant damage have emerged, authorities continue to monitor the affected region for aftershocks and advise residents to take precautions.
This earthquake adds to the list of recent seismic activities worldwide, following smaller tremors in other regions such as Bhutan, where a magnitude 3.1 earthquake was reported earlier
