A deeply saddening event took place in Lucknow, where two sisters in their early twenties have reportedly died in what authorities are investigating as a suicide linked to overwhelming emotional distress concerning their sick pet dog.
Family members disclosed that the sisters, aged 22 and 24, held a profound attachment to their German Shepherd, which had continuously battled health problems. Despite receiving treatment, the dog’s condition continued to deteriorate, causing significant anguish for the young women.
Their mother revealed to police that both daughters had previously faced mental health challenges, rendering them particularly sensitive to emotionally taxing situations. She noted that they had been having difficulty coming to terms with the potential loss of their furry companion.
On Thursday morning, around 11 am, the mother instructed the sisters to go out for groceries. Shortly after returning, both collapsed in the home. Emergency services were called, but upon arrival at a nearby hospital, the elder sister was pronounced dead. The younger sister received treatment for several hours but unfortunately passed away later that evening.
Doctors suspect poisoning may be the cause of their deaths. A preliminary search in their room uncovered a container of a household chemical, prompting further investigations into the tragic circumstances surrounding their passing.
Inspector Suresh Singh from Para Police Station confirmed that the incident appears closely tied to the emotional distress linked with the family pet’s illness. Following post-mortem procedures, the bodies were returned to the family while legal processes are underway.
Authorities are undertaking a thorough investigation to clarify the sequence of events and to determine whether other factors may have played a role. This case underscores the urgent need for mental health awareness and emotional support, particularly among young adults grappling with grief and psychological challenges.
