Over 1,000 Cyclists Compete in Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo

Marking its fourth edition, the Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo showcased Abu Dhabi as a premier venue for endurance sports, attracting over 1,000 cyclists from 68 different countries to tackle a challenging 150-kilometre route.

With AED2 million in prize money, the event featured a mix of professional and amateur riders, further solidifying Abu Dhabi's status as a global hub for elite cycling.

Unique Course Through Abu Dhabi

The race commenced at 7 am from Hazza bin Zayed Stadium located in Al Ain and concluded at the Sheikh Zayed Festival in Al Wathba, blending the thrill of competition with a rich cultural backdrop. Participants enjoyed vibrant activities that highlighted Emirati traditions, creating an exhilarating atmosphere at the finish line.

Cyclists were categorized by their skill level and average speed, with professional male and female riders starting in the leading group, followed by various waves of amateur competitors.

Notable Podium Achievements

Serhii Sydor from Al Wathba Team became the overall men's champion, completing the race in 2 hours, 57 minutes, and 30 seconds. Close behind was Dutch cyclist Cornelis Vermeltfoort, finishing just one second later, while Russian Anton Popov secured third place.

In the women's division, Dutch cyclist Nina Kessler won, clocking in at 2 hours, 57 minutes, and 37 seconds, followed by Nora Jenčušová of Slovakia and Yona Vandamme of the Netherlands.

Impressive Performances by UAE Nationals

Local cyclists delivered exceptional results, with Abdulla Al Hammadi from Abu Dhabi Cycling Club taking first in the UAE Nationals men’s category, finishing in 2 hours, 57 minutes, and 33 seconds. In second place was Salem Al Shmeili from Dubai Police Team, followed by Ahmed Al Mansoori in third.

For the UAE Nationals women’s category, Marwa Salman of My Whoosh Team earned first place with a time of 3 hours, 31 minutes, and 14 seconds, while Noura Al Ghafli and Aisha Foulad rounded out the podium.

Team Competitions

The Dubai Police Team excelled in the team events, taking first for the men's category, followed by Shabab Al Ahli Dubai and Abu Dhabi Cycling Club. In the women’s team competition, Dubai Police Team also finished first, with Dubai Residency Team and Astro Falcon Team claiming second and third, respectively.

Event Support and Community Impact

The event was made possible thanks to the backing of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, the UAE Cycling Federation, and the Abu Dhabi Cycling Club, showcasing strong institutional support.

Post-race, Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, emphasized the event's role in promoting cycling and enhancing community engagement, as evidenced by global participation for the fourth consecutive year.

Safety and Engagement Initiatives

Meticulous safety measures were implemented during the race, including specialized medical teams, emergency response units, and technical support vehicles to ensure rider safety.

This year also featured the Race Village at the Sheikh Zayed Festival, offering fan engagement activities, recovery zones for riders, family-oriented areas, and exhibitor spaces, creating a comprehensive experience for all involved.

Live television coverage was provided by Abu Dhabi Sports Channel, featuring pre- and post-race analysis along with complete coverage of the race categories and results.

With increased international participation, intense competition, and strong community engagement, the Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo is firmly establishing itself on the global cycling stage.
