Kyrgyzstan’s Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Adylbek Kasymaliev called for stronger economic and regional cooperation during the latest meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States held in Ashgabat. The high-level gathering brought together leaders and senior officials from CIS member states to discuss trade, transport, economic growth and regional partnerships.
Speaking during the summit, Kasymaliev said the CIS has become an important platform for strengthening cooperation across multiple sectors over the past 35 years. He emphasized that the organization continues to play a significant role in promoting economic ties, transport connectivity, technological cooperation and humanitarian projects among member nations.
The Kyrgyz official highlighted the positive growth of economic relations within the CIS region and revealed that Kyrgyzstan’s trade turnover with CIS countries exceeded 7 billion dollars in 2025. According to him, this represented an increase of more than nine percent compared to the previous year, reflecting stronger regional economic integration.
Kasymaliev stressed the need for member countries to focus on improving trade conditions, reducing administrative barriers and creating a more predictable business environment. He also encouraged greater industrial cooperation, development of regional value chains and stronger collaboration in digitalizing foreign trade operations.
One of the key projects mentioned during the meeting was the proposed China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway, which Kyrgyzstan views as strategically important for expanding trade and transport connectivity in the region. Kasymaliev said alternative transit routes and coordinated regional logistics are becoming increasingly important amid changing global geopolitical conditions.
The Kyrgyz leader also addressed environmental cooperation, including efforts related to the rehabilitation of areas affected by uranium mining activities. He thanked partner countries that contributed to interstate environmental programs aimed at improving ecological safety and sustainable regional development.
During his speech, Kasymaliev additionally invited CIS member states to participate in major international events scheduled to be hosted by Kyrgyzstan later this year, including the 40th International Issyk-Kul Forum and the World Nomad Games. The summit concluded with a formal signing ceremony for several cooperative agreements and official documents between participating countries.
