Tokyo, October 24, 2025 – A man carrying a knife was arrested near the US embassy in Tokyo on Friday, just days before President Donald Trump’s scheduled visit to Japan. A riot policeman was injured during the arrest, though the extent of the injuries is not yet known, according to Tokyo police sources.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and authorities are investigating whether it was connected to President Trump’s upcoming trip. The incident has heightened security concerns around the US embassy in Tokyo, where law enforcement is on high alert.

President Trump is set to visit Tokyo from October 27 to 29, during which he will meet Japan’s Emperor Naruhito and the newly elected Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. Ahead of the visit, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department has mobilized up to 18,000 additional personnel to ensure tight security around key locations, including the US embassy.

The arrest highlights the growing importance of security measures ahead of international visits. Authorities confirmed that the suspect was detained without further incident, and investigations are ongoing to determine the reason for the attack near the US embassy.

This incident comes at a time of heightened vigilance in Tokyo as preparations for President Trump’s visit continue. Police officials have warned that any threats near diplomatic missions will be dealt with swiftly to ensure the safety of visiting dignitaries and embassy staff.
