Kuala Lumpur City Hall has launched a new initiative called Projek Trafik Lancar to address long-standing traffic congestion issues in Kuala Lumpur. The project focuses on upgrading key road networks in the areas of Segambut, Seputeh, and Wangsa Maju.
Kuala Lumpur mayor Fadlun Mak Ujud stated that the initiative represents a shift in how development funds are used. Revenue collected from new projects will now be reinvested directly into improving surrounding infrastructure, including roads, drainage, and public amenities.
In Segambut, one of the major components involves constructing a 562-metre road with tunnel and bridge connections linking Jalan Kiara 7 to the SPRINT Highway’s Penchala Link. The project is expected to begin within two months and will take approximately two years to complete.
The upgrade is expected to significantly improve traffic flow in areas such as Mont Kiara, where congestion levels are currently high due to dense residential developments. The new link aims to reduce travel time and ease pressure on existing roads serving multiple condominiums.
In Seputeh, DBKL plans to widen a key exit from the New Pantai Expressway to the KL-Seremban Highway from two lanes to three. This upgrade is expected to benefit motorists from Jalan Kuchai Maju, Jalan Desa, and Salak, especially during peak hours.
Meanwhile, in Wangsa Maju, authorities are preparing to upgrade the intersection at Jalan 7/24 and MRR2. The area has been identified as both a congestion hotspot and an accident-prone zone, making improvements critical for safety and efficiency.
Federal Territories Minister Hannah Yeoh noted that these projects were long requested by residents since 2018 and are now finally being implemented. Construction is expected to begin between June and late 2026, with temporary traffic diversions planned during the works.
The initiative reflects a broader effort to align infrastructure development with urban growth and improve daily commuting conditions for residents across Kuala Lumpur.
