Johor PAS has strongly denied claims circulating on social media that the party plans to withdraw from the upcoming Johor state election in order to give way to Barisan Nasional and Umno. Party leaders described the rumours as false and politically motivated attempts to weaken public confidence in the party’s election machinery ahead of the state polls.
Johor PAS information chief Mohd Firdaus Jaffar clarified that neither the PAS leadership nor the Perikatan Nasional coalition had issued any instruction for the party to step aside in the coming election. He stressed that Johor PAS remains fully prepared to contest the state polls whenever they are called.
The clarification came after several viral social media posts claimed that PAS was allegedly negotiating political cooperation with Barisan Nasional’s main party Umno. The rumours suggested that PAS could reduce or avoid contesting certain seats in exchange for political positions within the Johor state administration.
According to Mohd Firdaus, such claims were deliberately spread by irresponsible groups seeking to create confusion among grassroots supporters and damage party unity. He urged PAS members and supporters not to be influenced by unverified political speculation circulating online.
Political discussions intensified recently following controversy surrounding the appointment of unelected assemblymen in Johor. Some online narratives linked the issue to alleged behind-the-scenes negotiations between PAS and Umno, though no official evidence supporting such claims has emerged so far.
Johor PAS leaders reiterated that the party’s election machinery at both state and local levels has already begun preparations for the coming election. Party officials said they remain focused on strengthening grassroots support, organising campaign strategies, and preparing candidates to face political competition in Johor.
Analysts believe the rumours reflect growing political speculation surrounding possible alliances among major Malay-Muslim political parties ahead of future elections. Johor remains one of Malaysia’s most politically important states, making any suggestion of cooperation between rival parties a major topic of public discussion.
Despite the speculation, PAS leaders insist that the party will continue moving forward under the Perikatan Nasional coalition and remain committed to contesting seats in the state election. Party members have also been advised to focus on public engagement and avoid distractions created by online political rumours.
