Renowned British author Jilly Cooper, famous for her romance novels including Riders and Rivals, has passed away at the age of 88. Her death, confirmed on Monday by her agency Curtis Brown, has sent shockwaves across the literary world, leaving fans, friends, and family in deep sorrow. Cooper’s remarkable career spanned several decades, during which she wrote 18 novels that enthralled readers with vivid storytelling, complex characters, and intricate depictions of social life in contemporary Britain.

Cooper’s family expressed their grief in a heartfelt statement. Her children, Felix and Emily, said: “Mum was the shining light in all of our lives. Her love for all of her family and friends knew no bounds. Her unexpected death has come as a complete shock. We are so proud of everything she achieved in her life and can’t begin to imagine life without her infectious smile and laughter all around us.”
