Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has strongly condemned US President Donald Trump’s recent warning of possible American intervention if peaceful protesters in Iran are killed. Araghchi described Trump’s statement as “reckless and dangerous,” responding to the US leader’s social media post in which he declared, “We are locked and loaded and ready to go,” pledging that the United States would “come to the rescue” of demonstrators protesting Iran’s deteriorating economic conditions.
Araghchi emphasized that Iran’s military forces remain vigilant and fully prepared, stating they “know exactly where to aim” should any attack take place. He further criticized Trump’s own use of force within the US, referencing the deployment of the National Guard to handle civil unrest, and stressed that “criminal attacks on public property cannot be tolerated.” The Iranian official firmly warned that any external interference in Iran’s domestic affairs would be met with forceful resistance.
The protests began in Tehran, sparked by sharp declines in the value of Iran’s currency, the rial, which has deepened economic hardships for many Iranians. Over the past week, the unrest has spread to numerous cities across the country, leading to clashes between security forces and demonstrators. Official and human rights sources report that at least eight people have lost their lives during these confrontations, though independent verification remains difficult.
These protests represent the most widespread wave of dissent since the 2022 uprising triggered by the death of Mahsa Amini while in the custody of Iran’s morality police. Although the scale of the current unrest has not matched that previous movement, it nonetheless signals significant public discontent. Iranian leaders, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, have pledged to listen to the “legitimate demands” of the protesters. At the same time, Prosecutor General Mohammad Movahedi-Azad issued a stern warning that any attempts to undermine the country’s stability would face a “decisive response.”
In an effort to draw international attention, Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Amir-Saeid Iravani, has sent a letter to the UN Security Council calling for condemnation of Trump’s threatening remarks. Iravani accused the United States of bearing “full responsibility” for any consequences arising from these “unlawful threats” and any subsequent escalation of tensions.
The situation remains tense as Iran braces for further protests and the international community watches closely amid rising fears of conflict fueled by external interference.
