Iran has reportedly closed the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz following a wave of Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon, escalating tensions across the region. The move comes less than 24 hours after a US-brokered ceasefire between Iran and the United States aimed at easing hostilities.
According to reports, Israel launched more than 100 airstrikes within minutes, targeting positions linked to Hezbollah in Lebanon. The strikes resulted in significant casualties and damage, prompting a strong reaction from Iran and raising concerns about a wider regional escalation.
Benjamin Netanyahu expressed support for the US-Iran ceasefire but clarified that it does not apply to operations in Lebanon. Meanwhile, Donald Trump backed Israel’s continued military actions, stating that Hezbollah was not included in the ceasefire agreement.
The United States has urged Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz immediately, warning that any disruption to this critical global oil route is unacceptable. Analysts warn that the situation could impact global energy supplies and further destabilize the Middle East if tensions continue to rise.
