Indonesia has strongly condemned an artillery strike in southern Lebanon that killed one of its peacekeepers serving under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon. The Indonesian government has called for a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident, which also left three other personnel injured.
According to Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the attack occurred near the Indonesian UNIFIL contingent’s position in Adchit Al Qusayr on March 29. The strike is believed to be linked to ongoing hostilities between Israel and armed groups in southern Lebanon, where tensions have escalated significantly in recent weeks.
The government expressed deep condolences to the family of the fallen peacekeeper and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of its personnel. Authorities are coordinating with the United Nations to repatriate the deceased and provide medical care to the injured. Indonesia also emphasized that attacks on peacekeepers violate international law and undermine global peace efforts.
The incident comes amid a broader escalation in the Middle East, with cross-border clashes involving Hezbollah and Israeli forces. Ongoing violence has resulted in heavy civilian casualties and increased risks for UN peacekeeping missions operating in the region. Indonesia has urged all parties to exercise restraint, respect sovereignty, and return to diplomatic dialogue to prevent further escalation.
