The government of Indonesia has called for a comprehensive investigation into the deaths of its peacekeepers in Lebanon, following preliminary findings from a United Nations probe into two deadly incidents.
Officials in Jakarta urged the United Nations to complete a full inquiry and hold those responsible accountable. They also supported efforts by the UNIFIL to formally protest against the parties involved.
According to initial findings, the first incident on March 29 was caused by a tank shell reportedly fired by the Israeli Defense Forces, which killed one Indonesian peacekeeper and injured others despite prior coordination of UN positions.
The second incident, which occurred on March 30, involved an improvised explosive device (IED) that killed two Indonesian soldiers. UN officials suggested that the device was most likely planted by Hezbollah, although investigations are ongoing.
Indonesia strongly condemned the attack on its peacekeepers, emphasizing that the safety of UN personnel is non-negotiable and that such incidents represent serious violations of international law.
Authorities also linked the deaths to the worsening security situation in southern Lebanon, where ongoing military operations and escalating tensions have increased risks for peacekeeping forces.
Indonesia reiterated its commitment to seeking justice and accountability, calling on all parties to cooperate with investigations and ensure that those responsible for attacks on peacekeepers are brought to justice.
