A passenger bus crash in Indonesia has killed at least 16 people and injured 18 others. The accident happened just after midnight on Monday on the main island of Java.
The bus was traveling from Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, to Yogyakarta, a famous and historic city. There were 34 people on the bus.
While entering a curved exit ramp on the Krapyak toll road in Semarang city, Central Java, the bus lost control. It hit a concrete road barrier with great force and then overturned onto its side.
Due to the strong impact, some passengers were thrown from their seats, while others got trapped inside the bus. The bus was badly damaged.
Police and rescue teams reached the accident spot about 40 minutes later. They worked quickly to help the injured and remove the trapped passengers.
At the accident site, six people died on the spot. Ten more passengers died later, either while being taken to the hospital or during treatment.
The 18 injured passengers were taken to two nearby hospitals.
Five people are in critical condition
Thirteen people are seriously injured
Doctors and hospital staff are trying their best to save lives.
Television visuals from the scene showed the yellow bus lying on its side. Rescue workers, police officers, and local people were seen helping as ambulances carried the injured and dead away.
Officials have started an investigation to find out why the bus lost control. More details are expected soon.
