Authorities in the United Arab Emirates have arrested 19 Indian nationals for allegedly publishing misleading and fabricated content online related to regional tensions involving Israel and Iran.
The arrests were ordered after UAE officials monitored social media platforms and found posts that allegedly spread misinformation and created unnecessary public anxiety.
According to the country’s official news agency Emirates News Agency, the suspects were involved in circulating video clips and digital content linked to missile activity and regional conflict narratives.
Investigators said some of the accused shared authentic footage showing missile interceptions or aerial activity but added misleading captions and audio effects suggesting attacks within the UAE.
Others allegedly used artificial intelligence to create fabricated visuals showing explosions and strikes in the country, which authorities said were intended to mislead viewers and cause panic.
The investigation was overseen by UAE Attorney-General Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, who confirmed that strict legal action would be taken against those found responsible for spreading false information that threatens public order.
Officials stated that under UAE law, spreading misinformation that undermines national security can lead to imprisonment and fines starting from 100,000 dirhams.
The suspects have been referred for an expedited trial as authorities continue monitoring online platforms for similar violations during the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
