An Indian-origin millionaire, Vikram Beri, was taken into custody in the United States after authorities alleged that he tried to set fire to a well-known winery in California and later attempted to escape the scene by speeding away in his Tesla. The dramatic incident unfolded at Garrod Farms Estate Winery & Stables in Saratoga, where the 42-year-old businessman reportedly created panic among the staff and visitors.
The trouble began when Beri was seen attempting to ignite a fire inside the winery. When staff members confronted him, he allegedly threw a wine bottle at them and then rushed to his Tesla in an attempt to flee. While escaping, he intentionally rammed his vehicle into two parked cars, causing significant damage and escalating the situation further.
According to the official statement shared on X, Beri drove his Tesla off an embankment during the pursuit and refused to surrender despite repeated attempts by officers to calm him down. Authorities said the businessman ignored every instruction and stayed inside the vehicle. After several failed negotiations, police were forced to use pepperball rounds and spray, which eventually compelled him to crawl out of the car and surrender.
Beri, a resident of Menlo Park, was immediately detained and later booked on charges that included assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest. Following the arrest, he was taken to a hospital for medical evaluation before being transported to county jail.
The millionaire has a well-established profile in the business world. He founded BetterLYF Wellness, an online mental health support platform created almost a decade ago. He also serves as the Executive Director of Business Development for Fieldking, a global agricultural equipment manufacturer. His earlier career includes consulting experience, and he holds degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois and an MBA in marketing and strategy from the Indian School of Business.
The incident has shocked many, especially those familiar with Beri’s entrepreneurial journey. Investigators are now reviewing the full sequence of events, including what may have led to the attempted arson and the dangerous crash. The case remains under examination, and further action will depend on the results of the ongoing inquiry.
