India has reacted strongly to the latest killing of a Hindu man in Bangladesh, calling the repeated incidents targeting minority communities deeply disturbing. New Delhi said the growing violence reflects serious concerns about law and order and cannot be ignored.
The Ministry of External Affairs said it is closely monitoring developments in Bangladesh and has taken serious note of recent attacks against Hindus, Christians, and Buddhists. India condemned the killings and stressed that those responsible must be identified and punished under the law.
Officials highlighted that thousands of violent incidents involving minorities have been recorded in recent months, including murders, arson attacks, and land-related violence. India said these incidents should not be dismissed as isolated cases or political unrest.
The latest killing was reported from Rajbari district, around 145 kilometres west of Dhaka. The victim, identified as Amrit Mondal, was allegedly beaten to death by local residents following accusations of extortion. Police said Mondal and a group of associates were confronted by locals after allegedly demanding money from a household. He was critically injured in the assault and later died at a hospital.
Authorities said one person has been arrested in connection with the incident, while others managed to escape. Weapons were recovered, and investigators confirmed that Mondal had multiple criminal cases registered against him. His body was sent for post-mortem examination as investigations continue.
This incident followed another shocking lynching in Mymensingh, where a young Hindu factory worker, Dipu Das, was killed over alleged blasphemy accusations. According to police, he was beaten by a mob, hanged from a tree, and his body was later set on fire near a busy highway, causing massive disruption to traffic.
The killing sparked widespread outrage after videos of the incident circulated on social media. The interim government in Bangladesh condemned the violence and said it does not support mob justice or illegal acts. Authorities have assured that strict legal action will be taken against everyone involved in both cases.
India reiterated its hope that Bangladesh will ensure the safety of minority communities and uphold justice through proper legal processes.
