England vice-captain Harry Brook has urged his team to remain cautious ahead of the 2025-26 Ashes series against Australia, which begins on November 21 in Perth. Speaking to the media before the series opener, Brook stressed that England cannot take any Australian player lightly, despite ongoing concerns over the fitness of key fast bowler and captain Pat Cummins.
Concerns Over Cummins’ Fitness
Australia coach Andrew McDonald confirmed that Cummins, 32, may not have enough time to recover fully for the first Test. While the bowler has not been officially ruled out, McDonald said Cummins must be bowling regularly at least four weeks before the match to avoid setbacks. Cummins has been central to Australia’s Ashes success since the 2017-18 series, and his absence would be a major loss for the home side.
Brook Highlights Australia’s Depth
Brook praised Cummins as “an amazing bowler” with pace and skill capable of troubling any batting lineup. He pointed out that even if Cummins misses the first match, Australia has a strong pool of fast bowlers ready to step in. “When their tails are up, they can plough through teams,” Brook said, emphasizing that England must respect the strength of the Australian squad and stay focused.
Ben Stokes’ Role in England’s Campaign
Brook also highlighted the importance of England captain Ben Stokes, who is expected to play in all five Tests despite recovering from a shoulder injury. “If you have a little niggle, just power through – and that is what he does so well,” Brook said, praising Stokes’ resilience and leadership. His presence is expected to be a key factor for England as they aim to challenge Australia’s dominance.
Ashes Schedule and Series Outlook
The Ashes series will kick off in Perth, followed by a day-night match in Brisbane, the third Test in Adelaide, and concluding with traditional matches in Melbourne and Sydney in December and January. England’s team plans to approach the series with discipline and preparation, focusing on countering Australia’s experienced bowling attack. Both sides are expected to field strong squads, making the series a competitive contest for cricketing supremacy.
Focus on Preparation and Discipline
Brook’s remarks underline England’s recognition of the challenges posed by the Australian lineup, regardless of potential absences. With a strong pace attack and experienced players, Australia remains a formidable opponent. England’s emphasis on teamwork, preparation, and mental toughness will be crucial as they aim to compete closely and potentially reclaim the Ashes.
