Gunman Opens Fire From Boat at US Restaurant, 3 Killed

Post by : Rameen Ariff

North Carolina: At least three people were killed and several others injured after a gunman opened fire from a boat at a popular restaurant in Southport on Saturday night.

The shooting took place around 9:30 p.m. at the American Fish Company, located in the Southport Yacht Basin area, about 20 miles south of Wilmington. Authorities confirmed that at least seven people were shot, with three victims pronounced dead at the scene. The other injured were taken to nearby hospitals, though details of their conditions have not been released.

According to City Manager Noah Saldo, the attacker approached the restaurant on a boat and began firing into the crowd before speeding away. Emergency teams rushed to the scene as police cordoned off the area.

Residents were urged to avoid the vicinity and remain indoors while the manhunt for the suspect continued. “Avoid the area and remain in your homes. Please report any suspicious activity immediately to 911,” city officials said in a public advisory.

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office confirmed they were assisting the Southport Police Department along with multiple agencies. “Please keep all those affected, as well as our first responders, in your thoughts and prayers,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Authorities have not disclosed any motive behind the attack, and the investigation is ongoing. Reports circulating over emergency scanners suggested more casualties, though officials have not confirmed any numbers beyond the three fatalities.

The incident has left the quiet coastal community in shock as police continue their search for the gunman responsible for the deadly assault.
