The National Final Round of Green STEM 2026 was successfully held in Hanoi with the participation of 33 teams from 19 schools across the country. The competition emerged as one of the most significant educational events promoting science, technology, engineering and mathematics learning among Vietnamese students while encouraging innovation, creativity and sustainable thinking.
Organized by the Institute of Educational Sciences and Skills Development under the Association of Vietnamese Universities and Colleges, the event aimed to strengthen practical STEM education and prepare students for the rapidly evolving digital economy. Experts believe that competitions like Green STEM are essential in developing future talent in artificial intelligence, robotics, automation, biotechnology and environmental technology.
According to data released by Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training, more than 218,000 students enrolled in STEM-related programs in 2024, accounting for approximately 36 percent of all university enrollments nationwide. Officials say the growing interest in science and technology fields reflects the country’s ambition to build a highly skilled workforce capable of competing in global industries.
Former Minister of Science and Technology Dr. Nguyen Quan stated during the event that digital skills and scientific thinking are becoming increasingly important for students from an early age. He emphasized that STEM education should begin at the primary school level to ensure children develop problem-solving abilities, innovation skills and technological awareness from a young age.
Organizers explained that Green STEM 2026 was designed differently from traditional academic competitions. Instead of focusing only on coding or robotics assembly, the competition encouraged students to solve real-world problems related to green energy, environmental protection and sustainable development. Participants were evaluated not only on their final products but also on creativity, teamwork, critical thinking and solution development processes.
Several students showcased impressive projects involving automation systems, eco-friendly engineering solutions, renewable energy models and intelligent programming technologies. Many teams demonstrated exceptional scientific thinking and collaborative skills while presenting practical solutions that could contribute to environmental sustainability and future technological advancement.
One of the major highlights of Green STEM 2026 was its connection with the international World GreenMech Contest. Outstanding teams from the Vietnamese finals may now receive opportunities to participate in global STEM competitions and gain international exposure. Organizers believe this pathway will motivate students to continue improving their scientific research and innovation abilities.
Education experts say Green STEM 2026 represents an important step toward modernizing Vietnam’s education system and encouraging young people to embrace creativity, science and innovation. The competition also highlighted the country’s commitment to preparing students for future careers in digital transformation, green technology and sustainable economic development.
