Tragic Identification of All 25 Fire Victims at Goa Nightclub

Tragic Identification of All 25 Fire Victims at Goa Nightclub

Post by : Sameer Farouq

Authorities have successfully identified all 25 individuals who perished in the devastating fire at the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Goa. The victims comprised 20 staff members and five tourists. Friends and family of the deceased congregated outside Goa Medical College on Sunday as officials released the names of those who tragically lost their lives in the early morning fire. Among the tourists, four hailed from Delhi—three from the same family—and one was from Karnataka. The staff included individuals from various Indian states and neighboring Nepal.

According to police reports, the fire ignited shortly after midnight on Sunday, predominantly due to a suspected cylinder explosion that unleashed fierce flames inside the nightclub, located 25 kilometers from Panaji in Arpora. Eyewitnesses indicated that the blaze might have initiated on the first floor, where numerous tourists were dancing when smoke began to fill the venue. Panic quickly spread among the nearly 100 patrons on the dance floor, prompting many to rush toward the lower level and kitchen area, only to find escape routes blocked, trapping both guests and staff.

The nightclub, a favored spot set beside the Arpora river backwaters, featured a narrow entry and exit point. Due to the confined lanes leading to the site, fire engines were unable to approach directly and had to halt approximately 400 meters away, complicating rescue efforts. This delay exacerbated the chaos as flames engulfed the interior and thick smoke permeated the structure. The intensity of the fire, combined with limited evacuation routes, transformed the location into a lethal entrapment for many inside.

A comprehensive list of the deceased has been published, confirming names such as Mohit, Pradeep Mahto, Binod Mahto, Rahul Tanti, Satish Singh, Manojit Mal, Churna Bahadur Pun, Surender Singh, Subhash Chetri, Jitendra Singh, Sumit Negi, Manish Singh, Vivek Katwal, Sabin, Sunil Kumar, Digambar Patir, Rohan Singh, Dominic, Manoj Jora, Sudeep, Ishaq, Saroj Joshi, Vinod Kumar, Anita Joshi, and Kamla Joshi. The four Delhi residents and the tourist from Karnataka were recognized as guests, while the remainder were staff members of the nightclub.

Ongoing investigations aim to determine the precise cause of the fire and whether safety regulations were overlooked. This tragedy has sparked significant concern regarding emergency preparedness, fire safety measures, and crowd management protocols for entertainment venues in Goa. Both locals and visitors expressed their shock, noting that the popular club typically attracts large crowds on weekends, rendering the night's events especially tragic. Rescue teams revealed that they were navigating perilous conditions, dealing with smoke, heat, and narrow access paths.

This incident stands as one of Goa’s most catastrophic nightclub disasters in recent memory, prompting calls for more robust safety measures. Officials have committed to providing further updates as forensic investigations conclude and actions are taken against those responsible. The community is deeply mourning the loss of life, with family members advocating for justice and enhanced safety standards to avert future catastrophes. The incident has underscored an urgent need for improved fire safety protocols, better emergency access, enhanced crowd control, stringent regulatory inspections, and swift rescue operations across nightlife establishments in the region.
