Under the esteemed patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, the Challenge Sir Bani Yas long-distance triathlon will make its highly anticipated return from January 31 to February 1, 2026.
Organized by the ADNEC Group, part of Modon, in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Challenge Family, this second edition promises a more immersive experience for athletes, their families, and spectators alike.
Building on the success of its inaugural event in early 2025, which drew over 3,000 athletes from across more than 40 nations, the organizers are committed to enhancing the overall experience in 2026. This year’s event will include improved race logistics, tailored race-weekend packages, and a more favorable race schedule for participants.
In a novel initiative aimed at increasing accessibility, cruise ship accommodation will be offered for the first time. Athletes and their families will have the option to stay aboard the Celestyal Discovery, featuring modern amenities, international cuisine, entertainment options, and direct access to the race venue. Technical support teams will also be based on the ship, creating a comprehensive race village experience.
His Excellency Aref Hamad Al Awani, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, emphasized that the event’s return is a testament to Abu Dhabi’s commitment to being a leading global sporting hub. He noted that Challenge Sir Bani Yas provides both professional and amateur athletes with an opportunity to compete in the island’s stunning natural landscapes, while also fostering healthy living and community spirit through sport.
Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, Group CEO of ADNEC Group, remarked that the event aligns with their goal of enhancing Abu Dhabi’s international sports profile. He highlighted that this triathlon not only embodies the adventurous spirit of Al Dhafra but also supports sustainable growth in both the sports and tourism sectors.
The Challenge Sir Bani Yas 2026 will encompass various race formats, including the Long Distance Triathlon (3.8km swim, 180km cycle, 42.2km run), Middle Distance Triathlon (1.9km swim, 96km cycle, 21.1km run), and Olympic Distance Triathlon (1.5km swim, 45km cycle, 10km run).
Aligned with the UAE’s Year of Family in 2026, family and community races will also be part of the event, offering inclusive swim, biking, and running experiences for participants of all ages and abilities. The event will continue its vibrant festival atmosphere, featuring wildlife safaris, kayaking, snorkeling, cultural tours, and a lively Fan Village.
