Your lips are unique; they lack oil glands, meaning they require extra care to maintain hydration, especially in cold weather. Fortunately, with simple adjustments to your routine, you can ensure your lips remain soft and radiant despite the chill.

Here are some effective, time-tested winter lip care strategies to maintain hydration and beauty all season long.

1. Hydrate from the Inside Out

One of the primary causes of chapped lips in winter is insufficient water intake. Often, cold weather reduces our thirst, but your body still needs hydration, and your lips will show the signs if you don't drink enough.

Recommendations:

  • Consume at least 6 to 8 glasses of water each day.

  • Incorporate water-rich foods like soups, oranges, cucumbers, and melons into your diet.

  • Limit tea, coffee, and alcohol, which can dehydrate your body.

Staying hydrated will keep your lips naturally smooth and fresh.

2. Resist the Temptation to Lick Your Lips

It’s common to lick dry lips, but this habit can worsen the condition. Saliva evaporates quickly, leaving your lips even drier and rougher.

What you should do:

  • Instead of licking, apply lip balm.

  • Keep a lip balm handy in your pocket, bag, or workspace for easy access.

  • If you feel the urge to lick, simply reapply your balm; it's a small change that makes a significant difference.

3. Select the Right Lip Balm

While lip balm protects your lips from cold weather and seals in moisture, not all balms are effective. Some may even cause additional dryness over time.

Opt for balms that include:

  • Shea butter

  • Cocoa butter
