DP World has significantly bolstered regional trade connectivity with the debut of a swift 36-hour maritime service joining Dubai’s Mina Rashid Port and Iraq’s Umm Qasr Port. This innovative route provides a quicker and more efficient alternative to conventional overland transport, facilitating seamless cargo transit between the UAE and Iraq.
This newly launched service, operated by DP World Express, utilizes a specialized roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) vessel that can accommodate up to 145 accompanied trailers per trip. Tailored for transporting non-containerised full trailer units, complete with drivers onboard, the service ensures a direct and efficient logistics solution while minimizing delays, border complexities, and handling requirements.
The vessel’s inaugural docking at Mina Rashid marked the official launch of this corridor. After significant upgrades at Drydocks World, the DP World Express is set to commence full operations in December 2025. This initiative is a response to growing demands for stable and predictable transport options, allowing businesses to swiftly transfer goods across vital trade routes.
Transitioning cargo movement from land to sea enhances reliability and aids companies strategizing their operations along the UAE–Iraq route. This maritime link also paves the way for further inland connections to important Iraqi commercial centers, extending access to neighboring markets like Jordan and Syria, thereby fortifying regional supply chains.
On its return voyages, the vessel will transport Iraqi exports back to the UAE, ensuring a balanced trade flow and improved asset utilization. This reciprocal system is expected to elevate efficiency across logistics frameworks, bolstering economic activities in both nations.
In addition to speed and reliability, the service contributes to sustainability by lessening emissions associated with extensive trucking. As part of DP World’s comprehensive logistics offerings, this route further enhances maritime connectivity for non-containerized cargo while aligning with objective of cleaner transportation.
With the launch of this Dubai–Umm Qasr service, DP World reaffirms its commitment to practical logistics solutions that simplify cross-border trade, promote regional unity, and address the dynamic requirements of businesses across the Middle East.
