Fourth seed Novak Djokovic fought hard to beat Zizou Bergs with a score of 6-3 and 7-5 on Thursday. This victory allows Djokovic to reach the Shanghai Masters semi-finals for the tenth time in his career. His next opponent will be Valentin Vacherot, the unexpected star of the tournament who is ranked 204th in the world.
The match was not easy for Djokovic. Bergs played very well and hit more winners than Djokovic. He even saved five set points in the first set. Despite this, Djokovic stayed focused and won the set with a powerful unreturned serve. In the second set, both players gave their best, with long rallies that impressed the audience. Djokovic eventually sealed the match on his third match point. He praised Bergs for his strong performance and admitted the conditions on the court were challenging.
Valentin Vacherot has had a remarkable run in Shanghai. He defeated tenth seed Holger Rune with a score of 2-6, 7-6(4), and 6-4. Vacherot lost the first set but fought back in the second set with a stunning backhand winner to take the lead. Rune struggled in the final set and even required medical treatment for his leg. Vacherot capitalized on these opportunities and won the match after nearly three hours of intense play. He will now face Djokovic in the semi-finals. This victory will also allow Vacherot to enter the ATP top 100 next week.
Vacherot said that playing against one of the big three players like Djokovic would be a dream come true. His cousin, Arthur Rinderknech, also reached the quarter-finals and will face Felix Auger-Aliassime on Friday.
The Shanghai Masters semi-final between Djokovic and Vacherot promises to be very exciting. Djokovic brings years of experience and multiple titles while Vacherot carries the momentum of his impressive victories. Fans can expect a thrilling match as the veteran faces the rising star. Djokovic is determined to continue his run in the tournament and aim for another title, while Vacherot hopes to create a historic upset in the semi-finals.
