Celina Jaitly is clinging to hope as her brother, Maj. (Retd.) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, remains in detention in the UAE for more than a year. The arduous wait now spans 15 months without communication, but a recent order from the Delhi High Court has provided a glimmer of hope for the family.
This past Thursday, the Court instructed the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to inform Retired Major Vikrant about his sister's desire to communicate during the upcoming consular access. The MEA was also tasked with facilitating communication via the UAE's TAMM app or any other available method.
Celina expressed her emotions in a poignant Instagram post, sharing her family's struggles amid the prolonged silence. "Ma & Pa... I am doing my best! I haven't heard from Vikrant in 15 months. Today, hope was officially acknowledged… Thank you, Universe!!" she wrote following the court's deliberations.
The actor noted that her petition for access to her brother and legal representation was presented to the High Court, during which the MEA provided a status report and designated a nodal officer to assist her. Although she has yet to speak with Vikrant, the Additional Solicitor General assured the court that efforts would be made to facilitate this communication.
The court recognized the family's distress alongside their long-standing legacy of service in the Indian Armed Forces. The next hearing is scheduled for December 23.
In a bid for privacy during this challenging time, Celina has stated that she will not be answering media questions and has asked all inquiries to be directed to her legal representative, Raghav Kacker of Kacker & Co.
Previous reports indicate that Maj. (Retd.) Vikrant Jaitly had been residing in the UAE since 2016 and was working with the MATITI Group, which specializes in trading, consultancy, and risk management services. His detention, which began in September 2024, is reportedly related to national security issues raised by UAE authorities.
