The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi has introduced the “Cultural Trail in Al Ain”, offering an enriching avenue for visitors to navigate the historic Al Jimi and Al Qattara Oases. This venture is designed to heighten appreciation of Al Ain’s rich heritage, reinforcing its identity as a prominent cultural hub in the UAE. The initiative will run until 31 December 2025, providing ample opportunity for both locals and tourists to dive into this extended cultural journey.
The trail encompasses a 1.4-kilometre walking path where visitors can pause at various stops to learn about Al Ain’s traditional lifestyle, natural beauty, and key historical landmarks. Explorers have the chance to enter traditional residences, time-honored mosques, and partake in interactive cultural activities that breathe life into the city’s history. Each stop invites visitors to grasp how these age-old customs have been upheld through time.
Complementing the trail is Manar Abu Dhabi, a prominent light art exhibition showcasing light installations harmoniously integrated into the oasis backdrop, crafting an artistic atmosphere that extends from the exhibition to the natural habitat. This synergy also bolsters the broader public art vision throughout Abu Dhabi, integrating the trail into a grander cultural map.
Additionally, the Al-Qattara route links seven key heritage sites, including the notable Al-Bahaita Al-Darmaki Mosque. On the other hand, the Al-Jimi segment stretches one kilometre, linking five historical edifices, such as the House of Abdullah bin Ahmed Al-Dhaheri. Collectively, these trails form a unified cultural stroll situated within a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offering profound insights into local artistry, community heritage, and enduring traditions.
The trail accentuates Al Ain’s recognition as the Gulf Tourism Capital 2025, showcasing Abu Dhabi’s leadership in fostering regional cultural exchange and tourism. Attendees can also enjoy Gulf-inspired attractions such as food markets, stalls featuring dates and honey, traditional date-pressing displays, storytelling sessions by Emirati guides, heritage exhibitions, a GCC book corner, and live performances showcasing instruments like the oud and drums. The trail welcomes all daily from 08:00 to 00:00, ensuring an enriching cultural experience is easily accessible.
