Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi has been recognized as a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Adult Multi-Organ Transplants by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, marking a significant development in the UAE's healthcare sector. This accolade highlights Abu Dhabi's advancing role in organ transplantation and its dedication to delivering top-tier medical services.
Since launching its transplant centre in 2017, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi has achieved numerous groundbreaking procedures in the UAE and the broader region. Key achievements include the first combined heart and lung transplant in 2024, the inaugural robotic lung transplant in 2025, and the UAE's first triple-paired kidney donation exchange in 2023. The hospital has also conducted innovative combined lung-liver transplants and simultaneous robotic kidney surgeries, enhancing its reputation as a pioneer in complex organ transplants.
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi distinguishes itself with a specialized ICU for multi-organ transplants and holds the title of the only lung transplant programme in the UAE. Achieving over 1,000 successful organ transplants, the centre's performance aligns with world-leading standards. This success showcases a combination of state-of-the-art technology, a skilled interdisciplinary medical team, and a strong commitment to research and educational initiatives.
Centres of Excellence in Abu Dhabi are acknowledged for their specialized programs, superior infrastructure, and outstanding clinical practices. To gain CoE status, institutions must comply with strict criteria including clinical outcomes, patient safety, service quality, staff proficiency, and active participation in research and medical education.
This latest accolade positions Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi at the cutting edge of healthcare innovation in the region, illustrating the emirate's continuous dedication to advancing medical science and enhancing patient care.
