A diplomatic row has emerged between China and Japan after Beijing alleged a forceful break-in at its embassy in Tokyo, raising fresh concerns over security and bilateral ties.
According to China’s Foreign Ministry, an individual claiming to be an active-duty member of the Japan Self-Defense Forces scaled the wall and unlawfully entered the Chinese embassy premises in Tokyo. The suspect reportedly admitted that the act was illegal and allegedly issued threats against diplomatic staff.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said Beijing was “deeply shocked” by the incident and has lodged a strong protest with Tokyo. China has urged Japanese authorities to conduct a thorough investigation, punish those responsible, and ensure the safety of its diplomatic missions.
The Chinese government also emphasized that Japan must take concrete steps to prevent such incidents in the future and guarantee the protection of embassy staff and facilities under international diplomatic norms.
On the other hand, Japan has yet to issue a detailed official response regarding the incident. The situation has further strained already fragile relations between the two countries.
Tensions between the two Asian powers have been rising in recent months, particularly after remarks by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi regarding a potential Chinese move on Taiwan. These developments have added to ongoing disputes and strategic rivalry in the region.
The embassy incident is now seen as another flashpoint in the complex relationship between China and Japan, highlighting growing concerns over regional security and diplomatic stability.
